What’s a good way to stretch guitar strings?

I recently recieved this really nice ESP guitar that’s equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo. I tried changing strings on it for the first time, but when I was finished the bridge was tilted upwards about 30 degrees. I tried pulling back on my whammy bar and two of the strings broke. I figured I didn’t stretch out the strings so they were pulling too much on the bridge. What’s a good way to stretch strings, short of buying a device that’s designed for it?

It’s fun changing strings with the Floyd Rose system huh?

Anyway, play with the strings for a bit, so some bends and what not, use the whammy bar too, but don’t pull too hard.

My Strat had 3 springs in the back and the bridge was a floating bridge too. Once I too the bridge out to fix a new piece for my whammy bar and put it back in, it stayed down, to ensure that, I add 2 more springs to it, needless to say, flat as a board.

After a few uses, you’ll be good to go.
