A car or truck engine is not the only system that needs lubrication carefully. The transmission and the differential may be less obvious, but the demands they place on lubricants may be even greater. All the arguments for the use of synthetic materials in a housing apply doubling the synthetic gear oils.
Gear oil makes a fundamentally different job than engine oil. Unlike the sliding surfaces of the cylinders and pistons, transmission or differential gears to press hard on each other for the transfer power. As the power of all vehicles is transmitted by contact surfaces of some teeth bit at a time, the appliances have to work under high pressure. This is particularly true of differential gears, which are 90 degrees apart and the contact surfaces even lower.
It is therefore essential that stable lubricating film between bearing surfaces. If the film breaks down, resulting in metal to metal contact causes pitting and scoring, and begins to stain the debris from the gearbox. A transmission oil should be a delicate balancing act. Viscosity Superior provides more protection and a more stable lubricant film, but it also means a thicker oil. As the gears to push through the oil thicker, it absorbs some of their energy, the power loss and reduced fuel economy.
Heat is another concern major gear oils. "thermal runaway" is an effect that occurs when temperatures rise in the box speed, causing a loss of viscosity in the gear oil. In turn, this causes a touch more metal, more heat, and further loss of viscosity. As this cycle continues, eventually the gears suffer catastrophic failure.
The accurate assessment viscosity and the need for high thermal stability means that the synthetic gear oils have a considerable advantage on conventional gear lubricants. The lack of wax and other refinery by-products makes synthetic gear oils much more stable at high temperature.
In addition, synthetic materials, "says viscosities formulations allow very precise. This means there is a wide range of synthetic oils gear designed for specific applications, diesel and turbocharged heavy pickups, remove vehicles, through vehicles off road and drag racing.
Compared to oil conventional gears, plastic can make a better job of providing just the right viscosity to the work and the economy fuel. And they can better maintain the viscosity in the oil life of extended drain intervals and improved performance.

Peugeot 406 2.1L turbo diesel engine diagnosis in 1997 remains on Auto. no loss of power at high speed and starts
1997 P reg glx cars dl starts the first crank to start cold. no bleeding power even at high speeds. tested at 90 mph through gears yday changes smoothly with decent accleration not checked the codes yet. pls advice where to do near South Shields, how much it would cost, and is it necessary, because it does not seem to affect performance. sorry am not very sure of the fuel economy
It could something safe, and cars generally older have the engine light comes on for no reason. I wouldnt worry too much about it, but you have checked sooner or later, because if the light is on all the time, and something bad happens, the light is so you do not know, causing more damage. If you want, your local Walmart sells OBD 2 computers for 50-90 dollars. I paid 90 for mine, and I love it. I can check off the lights and engine.
