Help is needed for my caterpillar?
My CAterpillar has turned from light green (whole boday) to yellowish head and tail, dark green body. There are changes to its frass, instead of round, they are now elongated. It hasn’t been eating for 1 day and was handing upside down on one of the branches for almost the entire yesterday, and now it is running run and run the fish tank (where i place it). What’s happening to it?
My caterpillar is a Daphnis nerii, where will it pupate?
It sounds as if your caterpillar is ready to pupate (enter the intermediate stage between the larva that it is now and the butterfly or moth it will become).
Some species pupate hanging from tree branches, whereas others go underground. If you don’t know what species your caterpillar is, I suggest you provide it with a couple of twigs, a branch or two with fresh leaves, and also add some substrate (a shovelful of earth will do).
What will happen is that once it finds the right place, it will form a cocoon (it may be soft and silken, or very tough, or sometimes mobile and chitinous) and will stay in there for a certain period (often months) before emerging as an adult.

Edit: Ah, a sphingid moth! The adult is very beautiful indeed. Sphingids usually pupate underground, or in rock crevices.

Just put some earth and a couple of rocks in the fish tank and she’ll know what to do. And don’t forget to take pictures!
